Waycross College Foundation celebrates record-breaking 2009 campaign

March 5, 2010

In times of economic uncertainty, the Waycross College Foundation continues to be a solid source of support for students attending Waycross College.

The Foundation’s Board of Trustees recently announced that a record $208,916.50 was raised during the organization’s 2009 Annual Giving Campaign.  The total shatters the 2009 goal of $90,000 and breaks the previous record of $145,670.84 set in 2004.

A majority of the funds raised were designated to student scholarships.  A total of five new scholarships were established – three of which are fully endowed.  Other funds raised will provide much needed support for various programs on the WC campus.

Trustees Robert Odum and Clay Thomas co-chaired the 2009 campaign.  Both were extremely grateful for the work of the Trustees and the community support that was shown through each contribution.

“I’m thankful for everyone’s hard work in making this such a successful campaign,” said Odum.  “I’m glad both our community and the Foundation are able to continue to provide so much financial support to Waycross College students.”

“The results of our 2009 campaign are a direct reflection of the heart of our community,” said Thomas.  “Even in turbulent economic times, our community answered in an unprecedented way.”

Dr. David Palmer, president of WC, lauded the Board’s efforts in 2009 and the dedication each Trustee continues to show to the Foundation’s mission.

“Like every other successful non-profit organization, we have a wonderful and very dedicated (Board of Trustees).  In 2008, our fundraising goal, primarily for student scholarships, was $110,000,” said Palmer.  “We fell a little short of that in a tough economic year.  We set a goal of $90,000 in 2009 and blew that out of the water.  Keeping our college on sound footing is what a good Board does.  Bravo to each of them.”

The Waycross College Foundation was established in 1976 with a mission of making sure every qualified student can afford to attend Waycross College.  For more information on the work of the Foundation, or to make a donation, please call Waycross College’s Office of Development and Community Services at (912) 449-7510.
