Hosely named to first team all-region by GJCAA

March 5, 2010

Brandon Hosely, sophomore point guard for Waycross College’s men’s basketball team, has been named to the first team for Region XVII by the coaches of the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association (GJCAA).

Hosely, a transfer student from Truett-McConnell College, was the SwampFoxes’ leading scorer during the team’s inaugural season, averaging 18.4 points per game.  His average was third best in the GJCAA.  He set a school record Dec. 10 by scoring 35 points against St. Johns River Community College.

In addition to his scoring accomplishments, Hosely was also a leader in other categories.  He led the GJCAA in steals, averaging 4.3 per game (second in the National Junior College Athletic Association).  He was fourth in the GJCAA in assists, averaging four per game.  Hosely was also a presence on the boards, averaging 5.5 rebounds per game.

Cory Baldwin, head men’s basketball coach, said Hosely was a strong leader for the team this past season, both on and off the court.

“Hosely was one of our hardest workers.  When your best player is like that, it makes the other players fall in line pretty fast,” said Baldwin.  “On the court, he had no problem talking to and motivating his teammates.  He was a true coach on the floor.”

The SwampFoxes finished their first season with an overall record of 17-13, 5-9 in the GJCAA.  The team was not eligible for postseason play this year per GJCAA regulations.

Waycross College has been a proud member of the University System of Georgia since the College’s founding in 1976.
